The Folkway, Asatru,
Odinism.
Various expressions of the same basic thing. A belief in the ways of our
Northern European Ancestors. The ways that carried our folk for thousands of
years and generations before the advent of christianity.
For those of you who have not heard of Asatru,(an Icelandic term meaning; true
to the Aesir and pronounced ow-suh-troo), it is the belief in the ways and
gods/goddesses known to the Scandinavian and Germanic peoples to whom we owe
our existence.
Many of you have heard of Thor and Odin maybe Frey or Freyja and Frigga. You
probably remember them from a comic book or an old movie about Vikings. You
may even have been lucky enough to study Norse Mythology in school.
These gods and goddesses of these old stories are just as alive toady. After
all How do you kill a god?!
The Folkway of today is the current expression of the same values and beliefs
of our ancestors, before christianity. We have words like religion and other
labels to further define the term. Our ancestors had no term for what they
believed. They just simply looked at their belief system as the way things
were done. Quite contrary to our modern need to identify with something VERY
specific.
The Wolfmoon Kindred was founded as a gathering place for Folks who walk in
the old ways, and for those who wish to learn of these ways. It is our goal to
aid area heathens in celebration of the old ways. To assist in the education
of old and young alike in the matters of the Folkway. And, to help our
communities. We strive to live by the values that have been forgotten in this
modern age of hypocrisy and mercenary attitude.
